Toyota Brussels,
December 12, 2007
The Second Roundtable took place on December 12, 2007. It was hosted by
Toyota Motor Europe in Brussels. The goal of the 2007 Roundtable
was to create commitment from a larger number of important players for
working on the improvement of production and the optimisation of
collection and recycling systems.

The South African, North American and Russian platinum mining industry and their Association (IPA)

Platinum processing/recycling and trade companies

Automobile manufacturers
-
Environmental and social NGOs in both producing and consuming countries

Government in Germany and the Netherlands

EU organisations

Research institutes
met at Toyota Brussels to discuss sustainable solutions for the future production and use of platinum group metals, focussing on their use in the automobile industry.

During the morning program, there were presentations by industry and NGO representatives from South Africa, Russia and the United States on the sustainability of PGM mining..
-
During the afternoon program, there were contributions from the automobile sector, government representatives and NGOs on the issue of better collection of catalytic converters and better recycling.
The meeting was attended by 37 participants from 10 countries.
The roundtable has shown a high level of interest in the issue and a willingness to engage in constructive discussions about practical solutions and opportunities.
